Joanna joined CREST in December 2011, in the post of Sol-gel Technologist, working on the Glan-Surf project co-funded by industrial partners (Yoruba, Gem and SmartGlass) and Enterprise Ireland. Her research interests include biomaterials, nanomaterials, advanced ceramics, materials with antimicrobial properties and the cell cultures. She has an expertise in the areas of materials testing, cell cultures and antimicrobial testing. She obtained her PhD in the area in Materials Engineering from the University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland specializing in bioceramics and nanocomposites (Project title: Bioactive wollastonite-containing ceramics obtained from polisiloxane precursors). During her PhD studies she was also working as a R&D consultant for the enterprise sector. After accomplishing her doctorate, she was appointed an Honorary Research Associate at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong where she has achieved practical experience in the field of cell culturing. In 2009 Joanna has been awarded an IRCSET postdoctoral scholarship at Dublin City University where she was working on the antibacterial, bioactive coatings deposited by plasma spraying on titanium implants. |
