Salt Spray Cabinets
|
The aim of this test is to evaluate the exposure of a coated metal
substrate to corrosive environments. One of the samples (panels)
should have a damaged coating and the other intact. This will
allow a sample as a control with undamaged coating.
This test is carried out in a purpose built chamber. The samples
are located in the inside of the vessel and supported on a
non-metallic rack. The rack allows the faces of the panels to have
a difference with the vertical so the spray does not fall directly
onto the panel surfaces.
Even thought this is not a simulation of any distinctive
environment it is the most commonly specified test applicable to
corrosion resistance. Among the typical failures for this test are:
blistering, lack of adhesion and corrosion.
