Reichert-Jung MeF3 Metallurgical Microscope

The CREST research lab is equipped with a Reichert-Jung MeF3 Metallurgical microscope. This is an optical microscope, which can be used for analyzing microstructural features of ceramics, fine powders and films. This technique can also be used for characterizing the macroscopic and microscopic configuration at planar sections of coatings and metallic plates. In corrosion studies, morphology or corrosion of cracks can also be analyzed.

Reichert-Jung MeF3 has a magnification in the range of 20 X to 2000 X.

Various methods include bright field, dark field and polarized illumination can be applied.

Most samples are encapsulated in a polymeric resin mount and polished to facilitate analysis. Images obtained can be documented using a Polaroid image capturing system.
