Coatings on substrates might get abraded during production and service.
These alterations to the protective film might jeopardize the service
life of the substrate. The lack of gloss and worn-out appearance can
also decrease the value and quality of the product. This method helps
evaluate the resistance of the coatings attached to different surfaces.
It consists of placing a specimen on the apparatus’ turntable and
subjecting it to abrasion produced by two movable heads. The testing
period is set to a pre-specified number of cycles or until wear through
the coating is observed. Among the different results observed from this
test is the wear index, weight loss and wear cycles per mil.
