The Technology Gateway network is run by Enterprise Ireland in partnership with 11 Institutes of Technologies nationwide. The Gateways provides close-to-market technology solutions that allow companies to develop new products, processes and services by leveraging the research expertise available within each Institute of Technology.
Each Gateway offers specialised expertise and provides innovative technology solutions aligned to individual industry needs.

EMD Ireland Technology Gateway Cluster
Established in 2016, EMD Ireland is a cluster of six Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateways operating within the engineering, materials and design sector. The cluster provides a range of expertise for companies who are looking to access research and development within these areas. The cluster can connect with over 300 industry researchers in areas such as Precision Engineering, Biotechnology, Polymers, Protective Coatings, Prototype Design, Medical Imaging Technologies and 3D Medal Additive Manufacturing.
EMD Ireland Technology Gateway cluster consists of APT- Applied Polymer technologies; CREST – Innovative Coatings; Design + – Applied Industrial Design; MET- Medical & Engineering Technologies; PEM – Precision Engineering & Manufacturing; SEAM – Materials Engineering
The CREST DIT Technology Gateway addresses the needs of the Irish engineering, biomedical, construction and healthcare sectors in the following areas of surface coatings:
- Protective Coatings: Protective coatings for challenging environments where superior corrosion performance and improved wear resistance are required.
- Materials Surface Engineering: Surface treatments for metal parts especially when fabricated on site.
- Coatings for Environmental Applications: Coatings for both domestic and healthcare environments where hygiene control is crucial. This theme will also encompass water remediation which is becoming a priority with EU Directives.
- Biomedical Devices: Development of improved adhesion technology for multi-layered biomedical devices particularly for release control

There are a variety of different types of funding to suit all types and sizes of project.
Enterprise Ireland Innovation Vouchers are open to all small and medium-sized limited companies currently registered in Ireland. They provide funding to the value of €5000, to help with the research and innovation of a business opportunity or problem. Innovation vouchers are redeemable from all members of the technology gateways. More information can be found on the Enterprise Ireland website.
Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnerships are ideal for larger, long term projects which aid with the development or improvement of products, services or processes. Grants of up to 80% towards eligible costs are available from Enterprise Ireland. For further information check out the Enterprise Ireland Website.

Companies can pay a Technology Gateway directly from their Research and Development budget.
