CREST Researcher Wins Award at the 60th Irish Universities Chemistry Research Colloquium, UCC.
Congratulations to Rajath Varma, a PhD student in CREST and the School of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, who won the Best Oral Presentation Prize (Analytical) at the 60th Irish Universities Chemistry Research Colloquium, held in UCC on 11th – 13th June. Rajath is supervised by Dr Brendan Duffy, CREST and Dr John Cassidy , Asst. Head of School. His talk presented some of his work on the use of sol-gel technology to improve the corrosion protection properties of aluminium and steel. The work is applied in particular to the aircraft industry, which traditionally relies on chromium intensive techniques. Rajath discussed a range of synthetic and analytical techniques he uses to examine his novel materials
