Staff - Emer Ryan (Research Scientist)
Emer graduated from University of Limerick in 1998 with a BSc (Hons) in Materials Science. Through the Asahi Student Scholarship, Emer completed an MSc. in 2001 at the University of Limerick for Asahi Chemicals in Kawasaki, Japan. Thesis: “Characterisation of styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene thermoplastic blends containing polypropylene". On completion of her MSc, she researched with the Nanotechnology group in Tyndall, working on hot embossing of polymeric waveguides for telecommunications applications. She then worked as an equipment engineer in Intel Ireland for a number of years, before joining the CREST team in December 2006. Her current research interests are focused on the development of novel hygienic coatings with efficacy against pathogenic bacterium. Emer is also the electron microscopist for the centre, running the JEOL JXA 8600 Super Probe for consultancy and research projects. Emer is pursuing a further MSc (part-time) in Advanced Materials at the University of Surrey.
