The Technology Gateway network is run by Enterprise Ireland in partnership with 1 Technological University and 9 Institutes of Technologies nationwide.
Our expertise ranges from material surface characterisation to the development of novel surface coating solutions for diverse industries.
CREST at TU Dublin is part of the FOCAS Research Institute and uses laboratories as the basis for materials synthesis, preparation and characterisation.
We work with a wide range of industries in areas such as engineering, construction, healthcare & biomedical.
The CREST Centre provides coating innovation solutions for industry in the engineering, construction, healthcare and biomedical industries. It is the only dedicated surface coatings laboratory on the Island of Ireland and serves the SMART economy by means of translating in-house fundamental knowledge from the bench-top to the market.

Prof Declan McCormack is the Head of School of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences in DIT. Teaching thermodynamics, materials chemistry and surface & colloid chemistry to undergraduate students in Year 3 and Year 4.

Dr Brendan Duffy is the CREST Centre Manager, having previously been a Senior Research Manager responsible for Hygiene and Corrosion Control in CREST. After Graduating from DIT Kevin St. with a BSc in Applied Sciences (Physics & Chemistry, Hons 1.1), he completed a PhD entitled “Development of Novel Gas Sensors” at the National Centre for Sensor Research (NCSR) in DCU in 2002 under the supervision of Prof. Dermot Diamond.

Dr Annaik Genson joined the CREST team in January 2014 as R&D Consultancy Manager. As a Senior Materials Engineer, she is currently responsible of business development as part of the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway Network. It involves developing research and development consulting services for private companies.
Like the famous Ha’penny Bridge, DIT spans both sides of Dublin City but there is another connection between the two institutions.
